The Joy of Framing

“The joy of framing comes from working with people and treating the process as a collaboration, finding a framing solution that truly enhances the artwork. When I’m working with a piece, I enjoy exploring a wide range of options with the client, showing different possibilities to discover what resonates with them. From there, we narrow it down to choices that best support the artwork through color, depth, texture, and style.

I’ve been framing  for 35 years. In the beginning, my focus was almost entirely on construction, the cutting, the mechanics, and figuring out how to make everything work. Communication didn’t come easily, and that was my biggest challenge. Ironically, that early struggle has become the most rewarding part of my work.

I still get goosebumps when I see a piece of art placed in a frame that truly elevates it. That moment when everything comes together never fails to bring a sense of overwhelming joy.

Framing is, at its core, the art of enhancing art.”

This piece was done by a dear friend of mine. I was very touch by her kindness when she gave it to me. As soon as I saw it, I knew this was the frame. The filet took a bit longer to choose.

This is an example of my cropping skills. This was a much larger print that was too big for my home. I chose a focal point that included the signature and the print number. The frame felt as though it fit the mood.

To appreciate this piece, you should know the mat opening fits a 5" x 7" museum quality glass. A filet separates the art from the suede like fabric mat. It is a signed and numbered print from the West Coast Art And Frame conference in Vegas.

Working from the outside - in, the frame has a rock like texture, you can see by zooming in. A thin neutral fabric filet came next, followed by a dark fabric wrapped a liner. The original matboard was reused for the final touch.

Ahh, this photo is from about 1950. I wanted it to have 'an old time' feeling frame. The fabric wrapped mat and matching liner are actually from the class I took in Vegas over twenty-five years ago. The photo is of myself and my older sister.

This frame is for a mirror. The inside filet is the same one I used for The Girl in Green. Between the filet and the antique looking frame I inserted a deep burgundy fabric filet. It warms up the frame just enough.

You name it, I've probably framed it. This happens to be a piece of fabric wall paper that some industrious young man rescued from the dump. I used a green fabric wrapped liner to transition from the slightly lavender tinted frame. Color and texture

Color around a picture can change the focal point and the depth of the art.
